About Milena
Between the ages of 18-22. I attended nursing school at the University of Windsor and worked at an automotive factory in Windsor to support myself. I would later cross the border every day for my nursing job, and it was around that time that my interest in real estate and investing began to grow.
I completed my education and worked as an ICU nurse when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world. Whatever little spare time I had after my job, I would spend looking at real estate deals.
I went through the same grind most property buyers go through. I saw countless listings, visited dozens of properties and made a hundred enquiries. Fortunately, I reaped the reward of my diligent search when I closed the deal on the purchase of my first property – a 6-unit multifamily in Windsor.
I purchased my first real estate during the first year of my job. In subsequent years, I invested in more properties. Three years into my nursing career, I had successfully rented two properties, my 6-unit and a single-family home converted to a duplex, and was earning a passive income that matched my nursing salary.
“When I was searching for properties, I noticed a big vacuum in the Windsor real estate market. Realtors didn’t leverage social media to the extent they could, didn’t take time to educate buyers, and lacked the personal touch I was used to in nursing.”
As a nurse, I understood the importance of good communication and personal touch. Since buying real estate is a big decision, with people often pouring their life savings into their investments, they could do with the extra help.
Given that real estate and nursing don’t exactly mix, I decided to pursue real estate full-time. I applied for Humber college, completed my realtor education, and quit my nursing job as soon as I obtained my realtor registration.
I took my learnings from my nursing job and investing experience to forge a new career path. Within a year of taking up real estate, I launched Windsor REI Social and WindSocial Realty with the intention of making real estate ‘easy’ for everyone.
